Milton Jennings’ career-best effort lifts Clemson over Virginia Tech
CLEMSON – Brad Brownell picked up the first technical foul of his 11-year head coaching career and Clemson star Devin Booker did not have a field goal Sunday, but Clemson was still able to secure a 77-70 win over Virginia Tech.
Clemson forward Milton Jennings scored a career-best 28 points, making 16 of 18 free throws. Jennings also had 14 rebounds and four blocks.
Clemson’s outside shooters took advantage of a Virginia Tech zone defense focused on Booker to knock down 3 after 3.
Clemson guard Damarcus Harrison scored a career-best 19 points making 3 of 7 3s, and fellow forward K.J. McDaniels made five 4s as shooting-challenged Clemson was able to take advantage of open-shot opportunities.
Clemson defense did an effective job of Virginia Tech elite scorer Erik Green, who was held to 7 of 17 shooting from the floor.
The Hokies shot 35 percent from the field.
The win was much-needed for Clemson, which was coming off of tough back-to-back road losses. Clemson improves to 11-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Virginia Tech falls to 10-9, 2-4.
