Citadel falls to Elon, 70-66, despite 20 points each from Groselle, Van Scyoc

Mike Groselle and Matt Van Scyoc scored 20 points each for The Citadel, but it wasn’t enough to carry the Bulldogs past Elon today. The Phoenix got 22 from guard Jack Isenbarger and held on for a 70-66 win at McAlister Field House.

The Bulldogs fell to 4-15 overall and 1-8 in the Southern Conference. Elon leads the North Division at 13-7 overall and 6-2 in the league.

The Citadel trailed by 10 before pulling to within 64-60 with 5:15 left, but squandered three possessions with turnovers.

Groselle hit 8 of 11 shots and Van Scyoc 7 of 14 for the Bulldogs, who shot 47.9 percent. Marshall Harris had nine points and seven assists.

Freshman Tanner Samson had 15 points and Lucas Troutman 14 for Elon, which made 12 of 32 from 3-point range.

The Citadel is home to Wofford on Thursday.
