Charleston police released more information about a shooting that happened in West Ashley Wednesday night.

A 32-year-old man told police he was riding a bicycle at Davidson Avenue and East Street when someone shot him in the hip about 8:40 p.m.

The man told police he didn’t see the shooter, but that he heard leaves crackling from the bushes along a nearby ditch, where the gunman may have been hidden.

The wounded man rode his bicycle to his uncle’s home on 5th Avenue to wait for police, an incident report states.

He was taken to Medical University Hospital for treatment.

Police canvassed the area between magnolia Avenue and S.C. Highway 61 on Wednesday looking for a suspect. Charleston County deputies also were on the scene.

A suspect has not been identified in the shooting.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 554-111.
