The man who was shot in West Ashley Wednesday night has a violent criminal record, and police list the shooting as an aggravated assault.

The incident report from Charleston police identifies the man who was shot as Troy Marion Wright, 32, of Burger Street. He was shot in the hip while riding his bicycle near Davidson Avenue and East Street about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday. No suspect has been identified.

Wright was listed in The Post and Courier’s “Lowcountry’s Most Wanted” in October 2005. He was accused of riding up to a car in his neighborhood on his bicycle and firing at least four shots into the car. He was arrested in December 2005 and spent nearly a year in jail on a charge of assault of a high and aggravated nature.

Wright also spent 30 days in jail in 2008 for simple assault and 90 days in jail in 2011 for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

A charge of distributing crack cocaine was dropped in 2011 after the buyer said police arrested the wrong man.
