The Charleston Police Department reported that a 34-year-old man held down his girlfriend and hit her during an argument over money, prompting a standoff on James Island last week.
Christopher Glenn Mishowe of Gasque Street on Johns Island remains jailed in lieu of a $300,000 bail after he was arrested Friday on charges of kidnapping and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. He faces the same counts in connection with a similar incident in 2011.
About 8 p.m. Thursday, Mishowe went to his girlfriend’s home on Meander Row, where the couple had once lived together. An argument about finances ensued and included several physical altercations throughout the evening and the next day, according to the report.
The 35-year-old woman was hit several times on the head and the face, the report stated. She suffered a swollen forehead and lips, a black eye, neck and back pain, a bite mark on her back and bruises on her arms and legs.
The woman later told the police that Mishowe had held her on the bed, struck her and prevented her from escaping, the report stated.
That prompted her to send a text message to her mother, who then called the police Friday afternoon.
Officers responded around 1:30 p.m., but they couldn’t contact anyone inside. A SWAT team and crisis negotiators persuaded the pair to walk out of the town home more than an hour later.
The woman was taken to a hospital for examination.
A criminal case remains pending stemming from a four-hour standoff in July 2011, when the police said Mishowe tied up the same woman and refused to let her leave the home.
