The Diocese of Charleston is holding a special mass today, on the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize abortion.

Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone will lead the mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at 120 Broad Street in Charleston at 12:05 p.m.

In a press release, Diocese officials said that the U.S. bishops have designated today as a day of “prayer and penance for life, for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through abortion, and of prayer for the full restoration of the legal protection of unborn children.”
