Clemson University President Jim Barker begins rehab

CLEMSON — Clemson University President Jim Barker sent a letter to the school’s staff today updating his status after undergoing emergency heart surgery Friday, a procedure that included five bypasses.

Barker wrote that he was able to walk a lap around the ICU at Greenville Memorial Hospital today and that he is beginning the rehab process.

“The doctors are pleased with my progress, but they advise that it will take some time to heal,” Barker wrote. “I am beginning my rehab work, and I plan to give it my best.” Barker is expected to remain at the hospital for at least a week. Barker said he will provide another update when he is released from the hospital.
