Moncks Corner police are investigating a break-in at a pharmacy that is reportedly connected with a wreck that occurred a short time later on U.S. Highway 52.

The wreck occurred about 4:20 a.m. Wednesday near Tom Hill Road.

Carrie Ann Collette, 34, of Moncks Corner, and passenger Eric Humphrey, 30, of Mount Pleasant, were headed east on U.S. 52 in a Suzuki when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, S.C. Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said.

The Suzuki struck several curbs and came to a stop in the middle of the highway, Wyant said.

Collette was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and driving under suspension, Wyant said.

Moncks Corner Police Lt. Michael Roach confirmed that a crime had occurred before the wreck and that two people had been detained in that incident. He would not provide further details in that case.

WCSC-TV quoted Roach as saying that police planned to charge Collette and Humphrey with second-degree burglary in connection with a break-in at Delta Pharmacy, at 402 E. Main St., around 4 a.m.

Roach told Channel 5 that police arrived on the scene to find glass smashed on the storefront and pill bottles “all over the place.” He stated that the suspects made off with pain pills before wrecking their car on U.S. 52, WCSC reported.

Roach did not return a phone call from The Post and Courier later in the day seeing to confirm that report.
