3 Sangaree schools put on brief alert this morning after suspicious activity
Three Sangaree elementary schools were put on “alert” this morning after a school official reported suspicious people in the area, a Berkeley County School District spokeswoman said.
Susan Haire said the alert, which is not as elaborate as a lockdown, lasted only a few minutes at Sangaree Elementary, Middle and Intermediate schools until deputies could investigate the disturbance.
The suspicious activity was reported about 8 a.m. Haire said deputies informed the schools a lockdown was not necessary. Instead the schools went on “alert.”
“It’s really just a higher state of vigilance,” Haire said. “In this situation a lockdown was not advised.”
