Charleston man dies in motorcycle accident
A 62-year-old motorcyclist died tonight after being hit by a car while he was trying to avoid a wreck, authorities said.
Allen James of Charleston died at Trident Hospital, said Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.
At 6:30 p.m., a group of motorcycles were traveling north on U.S. Highway 17A near U.S. Highway 176 in Goose Creek, Salisbury said.
In an attempt to avoid a collision, James laid his bike down and fell off, Salisbury said. He was run over by a sedan traveling in the same direction.
James’ death will be ruled accidental, Salisbury said. He died of head and body trauma. He was not wearing a helmet, Salisbury said.
The accident was investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the Goose Creek Police Department.
