Former Gov. Mark Sanford joining race for 1st Congressional District seat
Former governor Mark Sanford will join the 1st District race for Congress tomorrow, his spokesman said this afternoon.
The announcement will come via a news release, said campaign representative Joel Sawyer.
Signs have pointed to a run for days. Sanford held the 1st District seat for three terms before becoming the two-term governor.
The final months of Sanford’s time as governor were overshadowed by marital infidelity when he had an affair with an Argentine woman who is now his fiancee.
Sanford has spoken of redemption ahead of forming this current bid to fill the vacancy left when Gov. Nikki Haley picked Tim Scott as the new U.S. senator, replacing Jim DeMint.
