Mary Lee moseys past the jetties
ISLE OF PALMS — Mary Lee has moved farther out, but is still off the Charleston jetties, apparently feeding.
The 3,456-pound, radio-tagged great white shark signaled about noon after signaling just beyond the jetties about 10 a.m. She has been on a northward track lately, and roaming back and forth along the South Atlantic Bight since arriving last fall.
The bight, from North Carolina to Florida, attracts any number of migrating species during the winter. Food fish moving out the inlets for the winter make the waters a feast.
The 16-foot-long Mary Lee might very well not be the biggest shark out there right now. But her radio-tagging by Ocearch researchers last summer makes her the most renowned. Thousands of people are following her movements.
