Former South Carolina first lady Jenny Sanford will not run for the 1st District Congressional seat, she said Monday.

Sanford told reporters that her job as a mother is more rewarding and important than going to Congress, The Associated Press reported.

Sanford had said earlier she would look at running for the seat left vacant when Gov. Nikki Haley appointed former U.S. Rep. Tim Scott to the U.S. Senate seat left empty when Jim DeMint resigned.

Her ex-husband, former Gov. Mark Sanford, is considered to be strongly leaning toward entering the race this week. He held the 1st District seat before becoming governor in 2003.

Two other campaigns are taking shape, though. Former Charleston County Councilman Curtis Bostic will announce his bid at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday outside his law office at 834 Wappoo Road in Charleston.

State Sen. Larry Grooms, R-Bonneau, is expected to announce his campaign on Thursday.
