Ship close to Sullivans Island beach
What looks like a stranded boat just off the shoreline of Sullivan’s Island is a commercial shipping operation.
The semi-submersible motor vessel Treasure will lower its deck under the water so cargo that’s bound for Singapore can float on board, according to an announcement from the company.
The operation near Fort Moultrie is scheduled to continue through Tuesday outside the shipping channel between buoys 24 and 25 in Charleston Harbor near the island, according to the Coast Guard.
NOTE: An earlier version of this story incorrectly called this a Coast Guard training exercise. The Coast Guard put out bulletins about the operation but was not otherwise involved.
