Stingrays take down Titans
Trenton, N.J. — The South Carolina Stingrays turned back the Trenton Titans, 3-1, at the Sun National Bank Center on Friday night.
Stingrays forward Matt Beca broke a scoreless tie with his first tally as a Stingray at 14:15 of the second period, rifling a shot under the blocker of Titans goaltender Niko Hovinen (17 saves on 19 shots) from the middle of the right-wing circle. Forwards Phil Mangan and Robby Dee picked up assists.
Titans team captain Andy Bohmbach tied the game on the power play at 11:07 of the final period, slipping a shot under the stick of Stingrays netminder Ryan Zapolski (19 saves on 20 shots).
Former Titan Ryan Hayes put the Stingrays (17-18-1-3) up for good at 16:30 with his sixth goal of the season from defenseman Scooter Vaughan and forward Andrew Cherniwchan.
Andrew Sackrison completed the game scoring with an empty-net unassisted shorthanded goal at 19:59. The Stingrays finished 0 for 2 on the power play while the Titans (14-16-3-2) went 1 for 6.
The Stingrays wrap up their season series against the Titans today at 7 p.m. and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Tuesday to face Gwinnett at 7 p.m.
