If The Citadel is to snap its losing streak during its current homestand, the Bulldogs will have to do it against rival College of Charleston.

The Bulldogs fell by 69-65 to Samford tonight at McAlister Field House, extending its losing skid to 10 straight games. The Citadel (3-11, 0-4 Southern Conference) closes a four-game homestand against the Cougars on Monday night.

Freshman Clide Geffrard scored 22 points to lead Samford (5-12, 3-1), which completed a two-game sweep of The Citadel and College of Charleston.

Freshman Matt Van Scyoc scored 19 points, 17 in the first half, to lead The Citadel. Marshall Harris added 12 and P.J. Horgan 11, while top scorer Mike Groselle was held to eight points on 3 of 10 shooting.

The Citadel made 11 of 25 from 3-point range, including 4 of 9 by Van Scyoc, but could not overcome 16 turnovers.

Harris and Ashton Moore hit treys to pull The Citadel to within 63-62 with 2:12 left, and a Horgan free throw kept the margin at 65-63 with 1:58 left. But Van Scyoc’s 3-pointer banged off the back iron with about 50 seconds left, and Samford hit its final four free throws to ice the win.
