Great weather, Second Sunday and Restaurant Week expected to bring out weekend crowds

Great mid-January weather, Restaurant Week and Second Sunday on King will coincide to bring out crowds this weekend.

The first second Sunday of the new year is this weekend, which means King Street from Queen to Calhoun will be closed to vehicles from 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

It also happens to coincide with Restaurant Week, which runs through Jan. 20. A slew of downtown restaurants are participating, and the temperatures are expected to be in the mid 70s.

Look for post-holiday shopping specials, information on the upcoming Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, information on the upcoming Baker Motor Co. Charleston Fashion Week, upcoming projects of the S.C. Maritime Association and free parking vouchers at the information tent at King and Wentworth.

On Lower King, Outta My Huevos will serve brunch specialties from their food truck, or you can check out the offerings of Moose’s Mobile Barbecue.

In front of Charleston Library Society, students from Charleston Collegiate School will perform songs from Laura Ball’s Unedited Concert Series production of “Songs of Freedom.”

Second Sunday musicians will include Michael Lindsey and Caroline Nelson, Page Fortuna and Makenna Van Liew, Matt Lohan, The Honeybees, Jenni and the General, “Chic” from the Daniel Island Academy of Music and Arts featuring students Bella and Avery, Luke Wilson and Steady Hand String Band, Sollie Puddin Jenkins, Brian Hoepker and The 3 Dudes.
