Charleston mother accused of kidnapping says she was doing ‘what’s right’

A Charleston woman accused of kidnapping her two children briefly ran from police Wednesday because she was doing “what’s right,” she told the authorities, according to an incident report.

Patricia Michelle Moon, 33, of Stinson Drive, was wanted in connection with the abduction in Georgia, after which an Amber Alert was issued for her car, which contained her 7-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter.

Moon’s ex-husband, Jeremy Moon, 36, of Baxley, Ga., called the Charleston Police Department around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday to report that her car was found parked on Cessna Avenue.

Officers went to Patricia Moon’s apartment home on nearby Stinson Drive and met with her at a back door.

Despite an officer’s order to stop, she closed a sliding glass door and retreated into the home, the report stated.

The officer then went inside and took her into custody at gunpoint.

“I’m the victim,” Patricia Moon later said, according to the report. “No one is willing to help me.”

Asked why she initially tried to escape from police, she said, “because there’s the law, and there’s what’s right,” the report stated.

The mother is awaiting extradition to Georgia to face kidnapping charges.
