COLUMBIA — The executive director of the South Carolina Republican Party is leaving to work for new U.S. Sen. Tim Scott.

State GOP Chairman Chad Connelly said Thursday that Matt Moore would be Scott’s state director.

Moore starts his new role next week.

Alex Stroman, who has been the SC GOP’s political director, takes over as executive director and party spokesman.

Current member services director Hope Walker is assuming Stroman’s former role.

Scott was sworn in last week as South Carolina’s newest U.S. Senator. Gov. Nikki Haley appointed him to fill the next two years of the term of Jim DeMint, who resigned to take the helm of the Heritage Foundation in Washington.
