Group walking across Ravenel Bridge to demonstrate concern over immigration laws
A group of Latinos walked together across the Arthur Ravenel Jr. bridge today from Mount Pleasant to Charleston to demonstrate their concerns about the nation’s immigration laws.
Carrying U.S. flags and hand-made signs calling for fair immigration reform, the group of about 14 people advocated for regulations that keep families together.
“We want the government to stop deporting people,” said Tirso Moreno, of the Farmerworker Association of Florida, in Apopka.
Other concerns are racial profiling and unwarranted police stops of individuals, he said.
The majority of the group was from Florida. Their plan was to stop in rural communities and also to speak with as many political figures as possible as they head toward Washington, D.C.
One of their stops included the Mount Pleasant office U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.
