NORTH AUGUSTA — Two brothers from North Augusta are dead after leading police on a high-speed car chase from Georgia into South Carolina.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton says 23-year-old Derrick Darden and 22-year-old Deante Darden died at the scene about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Deputies in Richmond County, Ga., say they tried to stop the brothers’ speeding car in Augusta, Ga. A deputy who tried to catch up with the 2007 Chevrolet Impala, pulled it over and approached the car, but the brothers took off.

Authorities say the brothers drove into South Carolina at speeds over 100 mph, went off the road and struck a tree.

Carlton says the brothers were not wearing seatbelts. Autopsies were scheduled Wednesday.
