A 47-year-old Walterboro man was killed in a single-vehicle wreck in Colleton County on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey identified the man as John Milligan.

According to the S.C. Highway Patrol, Milligan was riding north on Burlington Road on a 1999 BMW motorcycle when the vehicle ran off the road and into an embankment about 4:55 a.m., Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said.

Milligan, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. He died from head trauma suffered in the wreck, Harvey said.
