Firefighter killed when train hits truck in St. George
A firefighter was killed when he tried to drive across a train track in St. George on Sunday, Grover Fire Department Chief Wesley Infinger says.
The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office has not identified the driver, but Infinger said his name is Richard Willis.
Infinger said Willis has worked with the fire department for about five years.
“He was really dedicated and went above and beyond what he really had to,” Infinger said of Willis.
The driver of a dark gray pickup truck was traveling south on Ann Street when the vehicle was hit coming over the tracks, St. George Police Chief Anthony Britt said.
The train hit the truck on the driver’s side and dragged it about 100 yards, Britt said.
