Fire on parked Japan Airlines Boeing 787 in Boston, no one hurt
A Japan Airlines Boeing 787 caught fire Monday at Boston Logan International Airport “after the plane landed and all passengers had left the plane,” according to the Boston Fire Department’s Twitter account. The morning fire was extinguished and no injuries were reported.
A mechanic was apparently doing a post-flight walk-through when he “noticed a light smoke condition increasing from the underbelly of the plane,” according to a tweet.
The fire was found “in a compartment with batteries and other electrical components,” another tweet said.
Japan Airlines was the second airline to take delivery of the technologically advanced but delayed and buggy 787 Dreamliner. The Boston airport was the first American city to offer Dreamliner service.
Neither Boeing nor Japan Airlines immediately responded to messages.
Boeing makes the 787 Dreamliner in North Charleston and Everett, Wash. This jet was made in Everett.
