Authorities investigating fatal collision involving train in St. George

One person died tonight after a pickup truck was struck by a train at a St. George railroad crossing.

The fatality was reported at 5:01 p.m. at Northwest Railroad Avenue and Ann Street in the town, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol’s real-time information site.

St. George Police Chief Anthony Britt said the pickup truck was southbound on Ann Street when it passed through the railroad crossing. The crossing has a sign but doesn’t have crossing arms or lights.

The train struck the truck and the driver died, Britt said.
