Tajh Boyd’s father says son still “likely” to return for senior year at Clemson but is “undecided”

CLEMSON — Tim Boyd, father of Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd, told the Post and Courier today that his son “most likely” will return to Clemson in 2013 for his senior season but added that Tajh remains “undecided” as the Jan. 15 deadline to declare for the NFL draft approaches.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Boyd lacks ideal height for an NFL quarterback, which has depressed his prospect status. But Boyd has raised his stock with a strong junior campaign that was capped by an outstanding performance in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. Boyd threw or ran the ball 79 times and did not commit a turnover against LSU.

Tim Boyd said Tajh has been told he is now considered a third-round prospect. Boyd has been graded as a mid- to late-round prospect by most analysts.

Tajh told the Post and Courier last month that he would have to be an early-round pick to forego a potentially special senior season, one where Boyd could be a Heisman candidate.

“I’d have to be in the top tier with the way the whole way economics have changed,” Boyd said.

But a weak 2013 quarterback class combined with a strong bowl showing is giving the Boyd Camp something to think about as the deadline approaches.
