Nonprofit hosts information sessions for aspiring teachers
Information sessions will be hosted this month for anyone interested in changing careers to become a teacher in science, technology, engineering or math.
The American Board, a teacher certification nonprofit, will host a series of community meetings to help address the teacher shortage in STEM areas.
The nonprofit’s staff will be available to advise aspiring teachers on a personalized path to certification in South Carolina. Paraprofessional educators and substitute teachers are encouraged to attend.
Interested parties should visit www.abcte.org/teach/events to register in advance; seats are limited. Hour-long sessions are being hosted in the following locations:
— Charleston Main Library: Jan. 9, 6:30 p.m.; Jan. 16, 6 and 7 p.m.; Jan. 23, 6 and 7 p.m.; Jan. 30, 4 and 5 p.m.;
— Charleston, St. Andrew’s Regional Library: Jan. 17, 24 and 31, 6:30 p.m.;
— Daniel Island Library: Jan. 10, 6 p.m.;
— John’s Island Library: Jan. 26, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m.;
— Dorchester Road Library: Jan. 9, 16 and 30, 7 p.m.;
— Otranto Road Library: Jan. 10, 24 and 31, 6:30 p.m.; and
— George H. Seago Jr. Library: Jan. 9, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.; Jan. 22, 4:30 and 6 p.m.
