Former state Rep. Richard Beasley dies at age 82
DARLINGTON, S.C. -- Former South Carolina state Rep. Richard Beasley of Lamar has died. He was 82.
Orville Anderson of from Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington said that Beasley died on Friday.
Beasley was first elected to South Carolina’s House in 1960 and served three terms. He had been chairman of Carolina Bank and Trust Company’s board of trustees since 1950.
In 2004, state legislators recognized Beasley for his service to Darlington County and the state, describing the late representative as “a pillar of his community throughout his life.”
Beasley was the father of Republican David Beasley, who served as South Carolina’s governor from 1995 until 1999.
Visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Anderson said funeral services would be private.
