Seven hurt in Interstate 95 wreck
A single-vehicle accident that injured seven people on Interstate 95 south this afternoon led to a three-mile backup.
Colleton County Fire and Rescue spokesman Barry McRoy said a sport utility vehicle skidded off the road in wet weather, flipped and landed roof first against a tree. All seven people on board were injured and transported to the Colleton Medical Center.
An 8-year-old was in critical condition, he said, but could not be immediately transported to Charleston for emergency aid because helicopters were grounded due to the heavy rain.
No other details were available. The occupants were from Raleigh, Mcroy said.
The accident was in the vicinity of the Yemassee area, near mile marker 41. Multiple ambulances responded.
