Summerville toddler who fell in pond dies
A Summerville toddler who wandered into a neighborhood pond last week died today.
Brandon L. Homes Jr., 20 months old, died at Medical University Hospital as a result of submersion, Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said.
The boy fell into a pond in Farmington Village, which is behind the Main Street Walmart on Farm Springs Road.
The Coroner’s Office and Summerville Police Department ruled his death an accident.
According to the incident report, police arrived at the apartments Tuesday and saw someone performing CPR on a small child on the bank of a pond as staff members and concerned citizens gathered nearby. The boy’s father was kneeling at his feet.
The father told police he was getting ready to head to Charleston while his child was playing downstairs. The man went upstairs for minute, and when he came back down, the boy was missing.
The man told police he drove to the front office to alert staff members, who later found the child in the pond.
Police did not identify the father, and the child was not identified until he died.
