2409 Darts Cove Way Large lot, versatile top floor marks Lowcountry-style home in gated Dunes West

The main and upstairs levels of a tidy Dunes West residence showcase a wide-open master suite, towering great room and lots of views.
But maybe the most prominent feature of 2409 Darts Cove Way in Mount Pleasant is the 981-square-foot third story.
Complete with its own bath, the penthouse “can be a mother-in-law’s suite, au pair (quarters), teen space,” game room or media center, says Dianne Broom, the home’s listing agent and Realtor with Carolina One Real Estate east of the Cooper.
“Possibilities are endless,” she says in her listing.
The property, containing a close-to-two-third-acre lot, is for sale for $585,000. “It’s a very competitive price here,” she says. “We have some good activity.”
Broom confirms that the 4,404-square-foot house is geared toward families: “Oh, my word, yes. Absolutely,” she says. The decade-old residence boasts five bedrooms, four full bathrooms and a powder room. “Because of the third floor, (it could be) any age kids,” she says.
The exterior likewise is perk-filled. “One thing I enjoy a lot also is the natural backyard,” she says. The fenced-in area, which includes a lawn fronting a stand of pine trees, is large enough for a buyer to install a pool, she says.
Then there’s the home’s traditional Lowcountry look. Twin peaked wings flank a columned front porch and balcony overhead. Triple dormer windows accentuate the third level. Crown molding is found throughout the residence.
A sprawling family room with vaulted ceiling and a gas log fireplace sets off the first floor. Next to the great room is the eat-in kitchen, complete with rows of cabinets and high-end double oven, refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave. There’s also a pantry and utility closet.
The cooking area opens to the formal dining room, marked by a tray ceiling and spacious enough for a full-length table.
A large back deck and screened-in porch give the house an outdoorsy feel.
Flowing touches such as 10-foot bedroom ceilings spark the second floor. The master suite is laid out with an extra-sizable bedroom, highlighted by tray ceiling, and a bountiful bathroom centered by columns and showing off a rounded tub, deluxe shower and his and her closets. Past the double vanities is a door to a small rear balcony. On the opposite side of the bedroom is the front balcony, which provides panoramic views of woods and the neighborhood. Both the master bedroom and a guest suite across the hall tout doors to the deck. The guest space takes in a good-sized bedroom, large bath and closet.
Two more bedrooms toward the rear of the house are linked by a Jack and Jill bathroom. Also on the second floor is the laundry room, which is conveniently located near bedrooms where clothes tend to be collected.
Another benefit is the residence is in a gated community with a guard house manned 24 hours, Broom says. “I think people find security,” she says.
Dunes West sports numerous amenities, notably a championship golf course, posh clubhouse and oversized swimming pool. They all require memberships to join or use.
The neighborhood is close to shopping and restaurants that have opened in the upper part of the town in the past few years. “Mount Pleasant is definitely moving out this way,” Broom says.
Darts Cove Way is on the northwestern side of Dunes West. Going north, follow U.S. Highway 17 eight miles from the Ravenel Bridge to S.C. Highway 41 in Mount Pleasant. Make a left onto Highway 41 at the traffic light. Follow the highway for three miles and turn right on Dunes West Boulevard. Travel about one mile and make a left at the Dunes West guard gate. Once inside, take a left on Harper’s Ferry Way. Go about two miles and turn right on Ayers Plantation Way. Continue another half-mile and turn right on Darts Cove Way at the neighborhood entrance marker. Make a left on Deer Parkway and pick up Darts Cove Way again. Ahead on the right is 2409 Darts Cove Way.
