The Porter-Gaud Holiday Classic tips off today with four boys’ and four girls’ games. The games will be played at the school’s Wendell Center and Fishburne Gymnasium.
The tournament has been scaled down to three days this year because a fourth day would have meant playing on Christmas Eve. But Cyclones officials didn’t want teams from out of the area traveling late Monday night.
The highlight of the first day of the tournament will be the Bishop England-Porter-Gaud boys game at 6:30 p.m. Friday at The Wendell Center.
It is the first time since 2008 that the two schools have met on the basketball court.
Porter-Gaud enters the tournament with a 3-1 record, while Bishop England is 3-4.
The boys field includes Porter-Gaud, Bishop England, North Cross, Orangeburg Prep, First Baptist, Academic Magnet, Heathwood Hall and Charlotte Country Day.
The girls field includes Porter-Gaud, Orangeburg Prep, Academic Magnet, Charlotte Country Day,
First Baptist, St. John’s Christian, Ashley Hall and North Cross.
