File Former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford

Former Gov. Mark Sanford is considering running for the congressional seat being vacated by Tim Scott, CNN is reporting.

Scott was appointed by Gov. Nikki Haley to the U.S. Senate seat vacancy left by Jim DeMint, who resigned earlier this month.

The job representing the state’s 1st Congressional District would be old hat to Sanford, who held the seat from 1995-2001. He was elected governor in 2002 and served two terms.

Sanford joins an ever-increasing field of potential candidates. Scott is expected to officially resign his post in January, and a primary would take place 11 weeks after that.
