The league consists of 120 softball players ages 50 and above, with half of these players being above 60. Close to a dozen are over 70.
The league was formed about 15 years ago with just enough players for one team. Once a month, teams from Myrtle Beach and Florence, along with the local team, would assemble at one of the three locations for a day of games, cookouts and relaxation.
The league plays following Amateur Softball Associationof America rules, with several being modified in an effort to keep injuries to a minimum.
Games are played at MeadWestvaco Kapstone Park, 1206 Remount Road in North Charleston, from April through June (spring season), and late August through October (fall season). The cost per season is $35.
Most seasons, the fields are available to players on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Each team plays two of those three nights at 6:45 or 8 p.m.
