No charges after North Charleston shooting
A North Charleston resident who shot and killed another man inside a store was not charged because police believe he acted in self-defense.
According to police, Rodney Fleming, 21, of Luella Street and his girlfriend pulled up outside the East Montague Market about 11 p.m. Sunday. Fleming went inside while his girlfriend stayed in the car.
Rodrejuez Shaw, 26, of Hanahan approached the car and exchanged words with Fleming’s girlfriend. Then, according to police, he went into the store and pointed a gun at Fleming.
Fleming then pulled a gun and fired twice, hitting Shaw once in the stomach. Shaw left the store and collapsed outside.
He was pronounced dead shortly after midnight at Medical University Hospital from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.
Fleming turned himself in to North Charleston police but was not charged because he acted in self-defense, police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.
