Help give Joey a happier holiday

  • Posted: Friday, December 14, 2012 12:03 a.m.

Joey is a 4-year-old boy who was placed in the care of the Department of Social Services because of physical neglect. He entered an emergency shelter with his three brothers, ages 3, 8 and 10, as all of them were in need of a safe place to call home.

When Joey arrived in care, he immediately needed multiple dental surgeries. He managed to come away from that experience with a smile on his face and his enthusiastic personality intact.

Some days, Joey still faces hurdles with temper tantrums. Those outbursts have become more and more limited, however, as he has made great strides through the soothing encouragement from caring adults at the shelter.

Joey also started school for the first time this year and is improving in the classroom. He loves to ride his bicycle and enjoys playing with his brothers and other children at the shelter. Joey fills the house with lots of energy and plans to ask Santa for a train set this Christmas.

Your donation can help a Good Cheer Fund agency make holiday dreams come true for Joey, his brothers and other children like them in the Lowcountry.

Contributions to The Post and Courier’s Good Cheer Fund have helped the less fortunate in the Tri-County area since 1927. The six charitable organizations sharing the funds collected are the Lowcountry Food Bank, the Salvation Army, Star Gospel Mission, the Association for the Blind, Coastal Catholic Charities and Carolina Youth Development Center. Every cent of the money goes directly to the agencies, as there are no administrative costs involved.
