MOUNT PLEASANT — The former Food Lion on Coleman Boulevard is set to be redeveloped as a Southern Season, an upscale gourmet store expected to create at least 88 jobs.
Mayor Billy Swails announced the deal today, one day after he and Charlie Way of The Beach Company yesterday flew to Chapel Hill, N.C. to finalize details.
“This is a real coup for Mount Pleasant,” Swails said, “and for the ongoing revitalization of Coleman Boulevard.”
Clay Hamner, chairman of Southern Season, Inc., said the company had been looking at sites all over the mid-Atlantic region in which to open a second store.
Hamner said Mount Pleasant was picked because of its “desirability, along with the excitement of the Coleman Boulevard revitalization efforts and the opportunity to be part of a business-friendly community.”
