Five Charleston-area non-profit groups each received a check for $10,000 Thursday from the Heritage Classic Foundation.

The success of the 2012 RBC Heritage Classic Presented by Boeing, the only regular PGA Tour golf tournament in the state, enabled the donations, officials said.

Checks were presented to Charleston Habitat for Humanity; Trident Literary Association; Lowcountry Food Bank; Crisis Ministries; and Communities in Schools. A ceremony was held at the Culinary Institute of Charleston at Trident Tech.

The Heritage Classic Foundation has donated $1.5 million to charities this year, and $23 million since 1987.

“We believe each of the five groups is doing outstanding work,” said Stan Smith, chairman of the foundation’s charity committee. “These donations celebrate the partnership we have with Boeing.”
