Drought rears its head in Lowcountry again
Despite recent rainfall, Berkeley and Dorchester counties are back in drought and Charleston County is under a drought watch after the state upgraded the drought status of every county.
The two outlying counties are considered in moderate drought, the point where water systems decide whether to implement controls. Charleston County is considered in incipient status.
Drought has plagued the Lowcountry and the state on and off since the late 1990s. But the rain today might be a sign of better things to come. Federal forecasters say rainfall should show some improvement through February.
