A Mount Pleasant man took matters into his own hands when a driver allegedly sped through his Pleasant Pines neighborhood of Mount Pleasant, according to police, and was injured in the process.

A man told police he was dragged by a car in his attempt to slow down a speeder on Pleasant Pines Road on Sunday. The report states he told investigators that a black Jeep Wrangler was traveling at about 50 miles per hour and sped up more as it entered the neighborhood, according to an incident report.

When the car came back around, the man told police he walked in front of the car to get the driver to slow down. He attempted to talk to the driver, a white male teenager, but the driver refused to talk him, according to his statement to police.

When the driver also refused to turn the car off, the man reached into the Jeep’s ignition, he told police. That’s when the driver allegedly drove off with the man still partially in the vehicle.

The man told police he was dragged and then fell to the ground, the report stated. He had several cuts on his body, police stated.

This latest speeding issue is one of many, according to the complainant, who told police about an ongoing problem with speeders in the neighborhood, although he also told police he had never contacted them about the problem.

Later that night, the man’s daughter spotted the Jeep on Houston Northcutt Boulevard, whose occupants called 911 claiming they were being followed. When interviewed by police, both the driver and passenger said they had been confronted by a man in the Pleasant Pines neighborhood. The Jeep’s driver told police that when the man reached into his car to take his keys, he got scared and “so he drove away,” the report stated.

The incident was recorded with a cellphone by the passenger in the Jeep, in which police could hear the man cussing at the teenagers and demanding they turn the car off, according to the report.

No charges have been filed in this case.
