COLUMBIA — The state Budget and Control board has approved a more than $20 million loan to the S.C. Department of Revenue to pay various costs related to a massive breach of taxpayer data at the agency.

The money will come from the state’s Insurance Reserve Fund and is expected to be paid back by Oct. 31, 2013.

The Revenue Department will ask the Legislature to appropriate the money to the agency so it can pay back the loan, which received unanimous approval this morning.
