Charleston-bound cargo ship runs aground off Sullivan’s Island
A Charleston-bound cargo ship lost power at low tide last night off Sullivan’s Island and ran aground in soft sand, the State Ports Authority said today.
Tugboats freed the 430-foot-long HR Recommendation this morning during high tide, It docked at the SPA’s Columbus Street Terminal under its own engine power.
The grounding did not cause any injuries or environmental incidents, the agency said in a written statement.
The harbor remained open throughout the night, though the Coast Guard did establish a safety zone around the ship.
