Haley promises to push her committee’s plan
COLUMBIA — Gov. Nikki Haley says she will push the ethics reform recommendations that a committee develops, whether she agrees with them or not.
Haley told the ethics reform commission Tuesday she supports whatever it does. She created the panel in October, saying an independent group needed to look into the issue of ethics. Separate House and Senate committees are developing their own plans.
Lawmakers say strengthening the state’s ethics laws is a top priority for the 2013 session that starts next month.
Haley says she supports requiring public officials to disclose all their income on campaign filings. She says an investigation into her own filings made her opinion stronger and that clarifying the law will help legislators while restoring public trust.
Haley was cleared in June.
