Charleston man arrested on drug and weapons charges

A Charleston man is behind bars after Charleston Police’s special investigators found more than five pounds of marijuana and other drugs in his home, according to authorities.

Investigators charged James Mercado Enriquez, 40, of Ashley Crossing Drive with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of hashish with the intent to distribute, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of firearm by a convicted felon.

Authorities searched his apartment and found 5.2 pounds of marijuana, 13.5 grams of hashish, 20 Adderal pills, 75 Alprazolam pills, a handgun and $1,500 in cash, according to police.

Police were led to Enriquez through tips. The investigation remains ongoing.
