Police have no idea how a woman was hit by a car in Summerville and left lying on the roadway, according to authorities.

Around 5:50 p.m. Saturday, police responded to Central Avenue near the Parsons Road intersection and found 27-year-old Jessica Canaday.

Witnesses told police they saw a woman stumbling in the roadway and collapsing, according to authorities. It wasn’t until after Canaday was taken to Medical University hospital was it determined that she had been hit by a car, police said.

Investigators think Canaday was hit while on the side of the road, walking against traffic. Police don’t have any information on the crash and are asking for help from the community, hoping someone may have seen the crash or even anything after the crash.

Anyone with information can contact Summerville police at (843) 851-4100.
