Citadel football coach Kevin Higgins earns contract extension through 2014 season
A 7-4 record this season earned The Citadel football coach Kevin Higgins a one-year contract extension, through the 2014 season.
Higgins has a record of 38-51 in eight seasons at The Citadel, including two winning seasons (2007 and 2012).
Higgins, who earns an annual salary of $227,352 according to state government salary databases, had previously had his contract extended through the 2013 season in an agreement signed on Jan. 18, 2012.
As part of that agreement, he is to receive a one-year extension for each season that the Bulldogs win a majority of their games against FCS competition.
On Nov. 20, athletic director Larry Leckonby sent Higgins a letter acknowledging that the Bulldogs’ 7-3 record against FCS foes this season had earned him an extension through June 30, 2015. Higgins is also due a bonus of $50,000 if he is still the head coach on Feb. 1, 2013.
Last season, the Bulldogs went 5-3 in the Southern Conference with victories over FCS top 10 teams Georgia Southern and Appalachian State.
