Another Statehouse panel will investigate the major breach of taxpayer data at the S.C. Department of Revenue.
GOP House Speaker Bobby Harrell announced on Thursday the appointment of a nine-member committee to examine the hacking and make recommendations. A similar state Senate panel already has held two meetings on the breach.
“While this investigative committee is officially tasked with finding out answers and recommending better security solutions, its ultimate goal is to re-instill public trust in our state government,” Harrell, R-Charleston, said in a release.
Harrell said an independent, outside investigation is needed to address questions going forward.
The committee will be chaired by new House Majority Leader Bruce Bannister, R-Greenville. The Lowcountry will be represented by Rep. Jim Merrill, R-Charleston.
