ST. GEORGE — Dorchester County Council on Monday approved a development plan for MeadWestvaco’s massive East Edisto project.

But not before a small group of residents protested that the plan’s support of “sustainable” development made the council and company stooges of a United Nations plot to stamp out individual freedoms.

A council member rejected the suggestion as ludicrous.

East Edisto plans call for a web of “green” communities across 70,000 acres in the southern county outside Summerville — nearly one-third of the county.
