Two killed, teenager injured after pickup strikes tree in Colleton County
A young woman and middle-aged man died and a teenager was injured after a pickup truck lost control and struck a tree in rural Colleton County today.
The wreck was reported about 12:20 p.m. on Oregon Road, near White Hall Road, in the southern end of the county, Colleton County Fire and Rescue Director Barry McRoy said.
McRoy said a full-size 1999 Ford-F250 ran off the road and struck a tree, splitting the truck in two. Both passengers in the cab died at the scene. A 13-year-old riding in the bed of the truck was thrown from the wreck and escaped with minor injuries, McRoy said.
The female driver, 17, of Green Pond, was wearing a seat belt, but the male passenger, 40, of Walterboro, was not, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Authorities are investigating the crash. No names have been released.
