The robbery occurred at the Heritage Trust on Jefferies Boulevard. Authorities say police fired shots at the suspect vehicle in the area of Sydneys Road but no one was hurt.
Walterboro police requested State Law Enforcement Division agents to aid with the investigation, SLED spokesman Thom Berry said.
It was the second incident involving gunfire in as many days. Authorities say a man was shot in the leg at Hampton and Francis streets about 7:30 p.m.
Officers found Derrick Walker, 26, of Walterboro in front of Hosey’s Package Shop at 1210 Hampton Street with a gunshot to his lower left leg. Walker told officers he was walking down the street when an unknown person shot at him. Walker was taken to Colleton Regional Medical Center.
